The UMHC Emergency Shelter provides temporary care for children who have difficulties functioning in their own home, a foster family home, a community group home, or other types of community based services.  The program is designed to provide services to children who meet one or more of the following criteria:-Dependent, neglected, and/or abused The UMHC Emergency Shelter has established the following guidelines for the selection of children in the admission process.-Children should be between the ages of eight and eighteen The needs of some youth will clearly be better served at other emergency or detention type facilities. Not accepted for our services are those children:-With severe mental of physical disorders The UMHC Emergency Shelter for Youth will not refuse a child based upon his/her race, religion, creed, or nationality. In the event of an emergency or crisis situation where the safety of other residents or staff is compromised, we may request the offending child be removed from our facility. Recommendations about future placements will be available at the request of the county. Initial inquiries for referrals from county child welfare and juvenile probation agencies should be made by calling 717.766.7652.
