Two counseling clinics are operated in conjunction with the United Methodist Home for Children. These clinics are dedicated to serving the needs of individuals and families in the community and are located in Mechanicsburg and Steelton. Services are available to all persons, regardless of religious affiliation or economic status. Supported by donations, counseling fees are determined on a sliding scale basis. This scale makes counseling affordable to persons of all income levels.
Persons experiencing a loss, depression, or family issues will find caring professionals, like Steelton counselor Melanie DeMartyn, providing help and guidance. A board certified art therapist, Melanie has nineteen years of counseling experience. “I love my work. I simply love what I do. It’s wonderful to help people grow in their lives.” The Steelton Clinic is located in the offices of Centenary United Methodist Church. To schedule an appointment, or for more information, please call 717.939.0017.
The Mechanicsburg Clinic, located on the campus of the United Methodist Home for Children, is headed by registered and board certified art therapist, Diana Matteson. A graduate of George Washington University, Diana received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in art therapy. She has practiced psychotherapy in the District of Columbia, New York City, and Honduras. Diana has worked with clients on a hospital psychiatric unit; at a day treatment program for adults living with HIV/AIDS; at a homeless shelter for adolescents; at a program for juvenile offenders and teen mothers; at a day treatment program for a geriatric population; and at an outpatient family mental health clinic. Diana also completed a two year tour as a Peace Corps volunteer. In 2004, she volunteered as a therapist at an art therapy summer camp for abandoned children with special needs in Lupeni and Beclean, Romania. To schedule an appointment, or for more information, please call the clinic at 717.697.0907.
Understandably, some people are nervous about beginning counseling. And looking objectively at certain situations is difficult, especially when that situation involves you. Our counselors understand how you feel and are ready to help!
